Philip VanDusen - How to Find Content Ideas
I like to say “Out of feed, out of mind” because content marketing is still very much a numbers game.
I like to say “Out of feed, out of mind” because content marketing is still very much a numbers game.
The average life cycle of posts are shorter than you think so volume is still king. I myself have been developing content for 6 years now with a newsletter every 2 weeks, a video every Monday, I often go live, etc so I know how it is to sometimes come up a little dry and hit that content wall.
Here are tips on how to develop content and build a system that ensures you’ll never be at a loss again for ideas:
● Don’t fear the spreadsheet; always keep something open for jotting down content ideas, topics you find interesting, or links you come across that can be a springboard for new content ideas later on.
● Don’t pressure yourself to come up with something that’s absolutely original, there’s no such thing.
● Instead of just talking about something that excites you, you can also develop content on things that you think can be improved.
● Soak up content inspiration in conferences; talk about the topics and speakers.
● Capitalize on trends; leverage its search volume and express your own opinion on it.
● Co-opetition over Competition: do cross-interviews with other content producers to ideate and leverage each other for content.
● Be sure to take a stand and add your unique point of view to content you produce because that’s what makes it original.
● Here are 12 different types of content you can produce:
1. Case Studies
2. Educational Posts
3. Reports
4. Interviews
5. Business Management Tips
6. Marketing Ideas
7. Business Development Strategies
8. Trends
9. Reviews
10. Inspirational Material
11. Infographics
12. Question and Answer
